Time Based Fares
Newcastle Buses & Ferries' bus fares operate around a simple time based system that allows unlimited travel and transfers between Newcastle Buses and Ferries bus services for the period of time paid for. Should your ticket expire while the trip is underway, the ticket remains valid until you alight from the bus, provided you do not transfer services.
The time based tickets can be purchased from the bus driver. When you first board and purchase your ticket, the time period purchased, the time and the date will be printed on the back of the ticket when dipped in the green machine on board the bus. You must dip your ticket in the green machine for each subsequent boarding so it can be validated. If you board a bus after the time period has expired, a series of beeps from the ticket machine will indicate your ticket has expired. To continue your journey, another ticket will need to be purchased.
Travel on Newcastle Ferry services by purchasing a single trip ferry ticket or a 23 Hour bus and ferry ticket.
Please retain your ticket until the end of your trip as you may be asked to produce it to one of our revenue protection officers. Your ticket can also help track any lost property items.
TravelPass allows unlimited travel on a combination of services, in your selected area, over the period of time paid for.
